Derriel C. McCorvey Biographical Summary Derriel McCorvey was born on March 16, 1970, in Pensacola, Florida to the parents of Simp McCorvey, Sr. and Vera Ladd McCorvey. He is (the youngest) one of ten siblings in his family. Derriel attended Escambia High School in Pensacola Florida before attending college at Louisiana State University and law school at Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Derriel C. McCorvey is a pro-life conservative democrat. He is a grace Christian who believes in the redemption of all God’s creatures and charity towards the “least of thee” in our community. He is an accomplished trial attorney who also is the founding owner of the Law Office of Derriel C. McCorvey, L.L.C. As a member of the Louisiana Bar, Derriel has fought and protected the rights of Louisiana citizens against big industry and has volunteered his time and legal skills for various civic organizations. Prior to owning his own firm, Derriel served the State of Louisiana by working for the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office. Additionally, he worked as a staffer for the Louisiana Sentencing Commission, as a policy and procedure analyst. Derriel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993 from Louisiana State University (L.S.U.) and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Southern University Law Center in 1998. Derriel served as a proud member of the L.S.U. Fighting Tigers Football team from 1988-1993. As a member of the Fighting Tigers, Derriel received All S.E.C. honors in 1991, All academic S.E.C. honors from 1991-1993. His L.S.U. academic honors also included being an L.S.U. Athletic Directors Cup recipient from 1990 -1993 and the recipient of the Andrew Gumby Award in 1993, given to the Latin student with the highest grade point average. With a passion for civic engagement, for the last seven years Derriel has hosted a weekly radio program, “Ask a Lawyer” on the KJCB, (770 AM), radio station and answers critical legal questions for residents throughout the Southwest Louisiana area. He is also president of the board of directors for the L.S.U. “L” Club, the alumni organization for all former L.S.U. athletic lettermen. Derriel is an active member of Progressive Baptist Church located in Lafayette, Louisiana having served several years on its board of trustee and one year as Chairman of the Board.Paid for by Friends of Derriel C.
