Off with their heads!
My plans changed, as can happen, I had the Lake Charles Libertarian representative , Wade Kelly come for a visit on Friday so I was unable to attend the Catfish Festival that night. The appointment to have some Saturday repair work done on my 86 RV was canceled and my travels changed. Saturday became the day for the festival.
The Catfish Festival July 8th at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, LA was great! There were several groups of motorcycle riders, the usual crowd of locals and a number of RV's from out of state. The food was every bit as good as I have come to expect.
There was live music off and on all day Saturday while I was there. There was the occasional pop up rain shower. The rain was light and over very quickly. I am glad to report that no one melted from the rain.
Saturday night I drove to Port Allan and spent the night at the RV area of the Moose Lodge. I always enjoy my visits at the various Lodges around the country.
Sunday July 9th I returned home in time for church.
July 10th through the work day of July 14th was just a typical work day in my life. The late afternoon of July 14th began the trip to Breaux Bridge for the Bastille Day Celebration at Chez Jacqueline.
When I arrived in Breaux Bridge, I checked into my room at Bayou Teche Bed & Breakfast, www.breauxbridelive.com/bayoubb
Mary Lynn Chauffe is the owner of the hotel. Once I was registered, I asked if there was a barbershop close to the B&B. While there was not a barbershop, there was a spa and salon next door.
I walked over to Visions Hair and Nail Salon at 213 Washington Street. I met Sarah who said yes there would be time available to cut my hair if I could wait a few minutes while she finished her client.
The Bastille Day event included a 6 course French Dinner. The waitress sat me with A. J. Sparacino. A.J. owns AJS Independent Insurance Agency, he is from Baton Rouge. He has known Jacqueline, the chef and owner of Chez Jacqueline for years. She used to be in the insurance business and I believe they worked together for a while.
Dinner was great fun. Chanteur Jean Louis worked the crowd playing his guitar and singing. The food and wine flowed. When it was over, I was glad to be staying just around the corner at Bayou Teche Bed & Breakfast.
Here's a recommendation for a mini vacation: Call ahead and set up a room for a long weekend, make an appointment for the full works at Visions, massage, hair, manicure and pedicure, then dinner at Chez Jacqueline all on Friday. Then spend a lazy Saturday walking through the antique shops around the immediate area.
You can also book a great Swamp Tour with Norbert LeBlanc. He uses Chez Jacqueline as his office when he is not transporting people on tours.
I was in Chez Jacqueline for breakfast and he had his cellular phone with him and was booking tours while having breakfast. I understand he is there every morning at 7:30 AM. Both the B&B and Restaurant had his cards on hand. I had a great time visiting with him Saturday morning after the Bastille Day dinner.
After breakfast, I went back to Bayou Teche B & B. Mary Lynn Chauffe gave me a tour of the house . We talked for about an hour about my campaign and politics in general. Mary Lynn has a son who has an Upland Game Hunting Camp. He has both guided and unguided hunts available, www.bayoutechehuntingpreserve.com
As I said earlier, this is a good place to go for a long weekend and there is enough to do that you could stay much much longer and not get to do everything.
Saturday by noon I was on the way back to Franklin to meet with one of the Libertarian Party At-Large Representatives, James Blake.
